The HOH booth and float at the Houston Pride Festival were a big success, as we shared about HOH and humanism with hundreds (if not thousands) of festival attendees and were seen by many more thousands in the parade. However it was also a significant expense, as several of our other recent events have been as well (the Better Life Film screening, Tony Ortega, and Neil Carter, plus Seth Andrews, Jerry DeWitt, and Shelly Segal within the next two weeks). As HOH is funded exclusively through member donations, any donations to help offset these costs are greatly appreciated. The easiest way to donate is online via credit card or Paypal (via the “Make a Donation” button on the HOH website), or you can donate in person at any HOH monthly gathering or major event. And as always, all donations to HOH are 100% tax deductible.

We now have an online membership form on the HOH website where you can submit your info and pay for the $20/year membership via credit card or Paypal. Lifetime membership is also available for a one-time $500 donation. Note that all HOH events have always been and will continue to be free, regardless of membership status; however, becoming an HOH member grants you official voting rights (and possibly other perks, to be determined), and also helps to support the ongoing efforts of HOH.

Another way to support HOH is through our new ShopwithScrip program. You can buy gift cards to many stores, restaurants, etc. through the program at no extra cost, and a percentage of each card (in some cases a significant percentage) is automatically donated to HOH. It’s simple to join and costs nothing, and step-by-step instructions on how to join can be found here on the HOH web site.

We’ve made several additions to the HOH Code of Conduct since implementing it last January, including additions regarding the open carry of firearms and the promotion of other organizations at HOH events. Please take a minute to review the latest Code of Conduct.

Remember that you always can bring donations for the Houston Food Bank or Atheists Helping the Homeless to any HOH Monthly Gathering or major event. In addition, through mid-October we are also conducting a book drive for Books Between Kids (Pre-K through 5th grade) so you can bring your books as well and we will deliver them at our volunteer outing on October 10th.

After a period of inactivity, the HOH Twitter has been resurrected: @HumnistsOfHtown

Also be sure to follow us on Facebook and YouTube, where we’ve added several new videos of our recent guest speakers and events!
