Humanist Magazine (the official magazine of the American Humanist Association) recently published an article about the work that local chapters are doing in support of social justice, with several mentions of the work HOH has done over the past year!

After the success of the HOH float and booth at last year’s Houston Pride Festival, we’ve decided to do it again this year! We’ll be having our next Pride planning committee meeting on Sunday April 3rd, and anyone who is interested in helping in any capacity is invited to join and contribute your ideas!

And even if you can’t help out in person, we will also need help covering the costs of the booth and float, as well as all of our promotional materials we’ll be giving out at the festival, so any donations to help will be greatly appreciated.

We’ve recently had some fake accounts join the HOH meetup in order to send solicitations to HOH members through direct messages. If you receive any such messages (or any messages of an inappropriate nature) please let us know at humanistsofhouston@yahoo.com so we can address them ASAP.

We’ve just completed our third Monthly Gathering at Trini Mendenhall Community Center, and it’s a notable improvement from our old location at Bayland; however, unfortunately Harris County is no longer allowing for the collection of donations at their community centers, which includes Trini Mendenhall. We’re in the process of trying to appeal that rule, but until then our ability to collect donations to fund HOH will be severely hamstrung and we will be even more dependent on online donationsto fund HOH activities. As always, all donations to HOH are 100% tax deductible and 100% of all donations go directly towards funding HOH.

Another way to support HOH is through our ShopwithScrip program. You can buy gift cards to many stores, restaurants, etc. through the program at no extra cost, and a percentage of each card (in some cases a significant percentage) is automatically donated to HOH. It’s simple to join and costs nothing, and step-by-step instructions on how to join can be found on the HOH web site.
