September Updates

Updates regarding the latest developments in Humanists of Houston:

——————————

Our September Monthly Gathering on Saturday September 17th (TOMORROW) features Kathy Miller, President of the Texas Freedom Network, and atheist singer/songwriter Shelley Segal! Kathy was featured prominently in “The Revisionaries”, the recent documentary about the Texas State Board of Education, and Shelley comes all the way from Australia where she has released numerous albums including “An Atheist Album”! As usual, doors to the Monthly Gathering open at 12:30 and program starts at 1:00 PM.

——————————

Shelley Segal’s appearance at our Monthly Gathering will be just a short preview of her house concert which we will be hosting the following day near Memorial Park. Space at the potluck/concert is limited, but as of today there are still some spots left. Admission is free, though donations to help cover the performer’s fee and expenses will be greatly appreciated

We’ve been busy scouting out locations for this year’s Solstice Party, but so far all of the venues have fallen through. If you know of any potential locations that could accommodate a large crowd (preferably on Saturday December 17th) please send us a message at humanistsofhouston@yahoo.com

We’ve put together a music/video slideshow of HOH at Pride 2016 and uploaded it to the HOH Youtube channel! Thanks to everyone on the HOH Pride Planning Committee and to all of those who contributed to make it happen.

——————————

Several more videos have also been recently uploaded to the HOH Youtube channel, including presentations from the Humanist Service CorpsSecular Coalition for America Executive Director Larry Decker, our LGBT Atheist Panel, and our Pride Fundraiser Dinner.

HOH Officer elections are coming up in November, and remember that you must be a paid voting member of HOH ($20/year) in order to vote. In order to provide all members with the opportunity to vote, all elections are now handled through online voting. Becoming a voting member is easy and can be done online HERE.

——————————

HOH is now on Amazon Smile! The way it works is simple: use http://smile.amazon.com for all your Amazon purchases, and designate Humanists of Houston as your beneficiary. That’s it! At no extra cost, a percentage of all your Amazon purchases will then be donated directly to HOH.

——————————

HOH relies exclusively on the generosity of our members to fund all of our operations and activities. For ways to donate in person or online, see this page on the HOH website. All donations to HOH are 100% tax deductible, and all HOH Patrons ($20 or more per month) will be recognized (if you so choose) as Sponsors on the HOH Meetup front page!

——————————
The HOH Board would like all of our members and donors to have full confidence that HOH funds are handled responsibly and ethically. To that end, the HOH Board has implemented formal rules and procedures for how all HOH funds are to be handled and managed by the HOH leadership, and they have been posted to the HOH website HERE.

——————————

We invite all HOH members to join the official HOH Facebook Group, and to “Like” HOH at the HOH Facebook Page.

Thanks to everyone for being a part of HOH!
