November Updates

Updates regarding the latest developments in Humanists of Houston:
——————————
Our November Monthly Gathering on Saturday November 19th features Dallas blogger Martin Hughes of Barrier Breaker at Patheos Atheist, who will talk about how studying literature made him an atheist and secular humanist, while also discussing issues regarding race and the atheist community and the relationship between race relations and religious/anti-religious thought. As usual, doors will open at 12:30 and the program kicks off at 1 PM.

HOH Officer Elections for 2016 are this month! Remember that you must be a paid voting member of HOH ($20/year) in order to vote. In order to provide all members with the opportunity to vote, all elections are now handled through online voting. Becoming a voting member is easy and can be done online HERE

——————————
ALSO: Everyone who becomes an HOH member (or renews/extends their membership) between November 1st and December 17th is automatically entered into a drawing for a (very lightly-used) 40-inch LCD flat-screen HDTV, generously donated by HOH Board Member Julia Watts!
——————————
The drawing for the winner of the TV will be held at the annual Winter Solstice Party on Saturday December 17th at Pub Fiction in Midtown, and this year’s party will feature special guests Aron Ra and Lilandra! We will also be holding a fundraiser raffle of cool items, both humanist-related and non. If you have any items (or even services) you would like to donate for the raffle, please reply to this email or send us an email at humanistsofhouston@yahoo.com

—————————–
The documentary theater play “Dialogues on Grace”, written by HOH’s Cressandra Thibodeaux and featuring at least four segments from HOH members, is now showing at 14 Pews! See the HOH calendar or the 14 Pews website for showtimes and to order tickets.
—————————–
HOH is now on Amazon Smile! The way it works is simple: use http://smile.amazon.com. for all your Amazon purchases, and designate Humanists of Houston as your beneficiary. That’s it! At no extra cost, a percentage of all your Amazon purchases will then be donated directly to HOH.
——————————
HOH relies exclusively on the generosity of our members to fund all of our operations and activities. For ways to donate in person or online, see this page on the HOH website. All donations to HOH are 100% tax deductible, and all HOH Patrons ($20 or more per month) will be recognized (if you so choose) as Sponsors on the HOH Meetup front page! All HOH Patrons also will receive an HOH mug and an HOH tote bag as a gesture of appreciation.
——————————
The HOH Board would like all of our members and donors to have full confidence that HOH funds are handled responsibly and ethically. To that end, the HOH Board has implemented formal rules and procedures for how all HOH funds are to be handled and managed by the HOH leadership, and they have been posted to the HOH website HERE.
——————————
We invite all HOH members to join the official HOH Facebook Group, and to “like” HOH at the HOH Facebook Page.

Thanks to everyone for being a part of HOH!
